P&R4M – Assessment Three

For useful formative feedback, could you please upload your Pro Tools sessions to the usual iDisk address by Wednesday 24th February.

Recap – record two pitched instruments.  Make three recordings of each instrument using three stereo mic techniques per instrument (with AB technique as a constant) ie, AB + two other techniques per instrument.

Don’t enhance the recordings in anyway, I want raw data, with the one exception of using an HPF to roll off low frequencies.

Manipulate the recordings, or extracts from them, using some or all of the elastic properties available to produce a soundscape lasting no more than 3 minutes.

For details of the written work required, please see the details posted in “Pages”.

I’m likely to be a little late arriving for the 9am class.  I’ll let Richard Taylor (the technician) know re. mics.

Could you please create a blank Pro Tools session with a mono + stereo audio track and set up three omnidirectional mics in a Decca Tree format.

You’ll find this link to the DPA site useful

PRM students – the article I mentioned earlier.  You should take a look, it’s very readable and insightful.

Good to meet you all earlier today (Tuesday 26th January), you seem like a great bunch of students, so I’m looking forward to hearing and reading what you’re capable of.

(Performing & Recording students….you’re wonderful too, but you don’t need to read on).

Unless you hear otherwise, check this blog for updates, new posts, useful resources and links (although now I’ve subscribed you all, you should receive email notification whenever I post anything new).

If you don’t all automatically receive email notifications of new posts (talk to each other to check this), then I simply couldn’t read your writing.

For example it could have been the 91st village idiot or a village idiot with artificial intelligence.  I’m liking the latter, but be sure to let me know.

You’ll see the ’static’ pages in the right hand column, with Work Based Learning right up there in the headline spot, including the 12 week lesson plan as a sub-page.

Please take a look here to remind yourselves of what we talked about today and the four things I’d like you to prepare for next week.

While I think of it, feel free to use cameras in class to take snap shots of the patchbay, wall boxes, mic set up (including polarity/phantom power light) and anything that you think might be useful in presenting a more engaging/informative piece of written work (to support your CD portfolio).

Finally, if you’d like to subscribe me to your blogs feel free.

Until next week, or the next post.
